my iPod is dead

Yep. It looks like my wonderful little iPod has reached it’s end.

What a sad, sad day. It started acting up yesterday on the way home from work. I changed selections and it froze. So, I let the battery die (not that I had a choice) and let it rest for a while. Plugged it in to see what would happen and still had issues. Then, this morning, I was able to do a reset on it. Looked like it would work, but, did not. t just won’t play.

So, tonight I tried to do a restore and that is what I got. :(

I was so hoping an orange nano would come out before it died. I really want orange, but the shuffle just won’t fit my needs. I’ll likely get the (PRODUCT) RED nano, but we’ll have to see.

**UPDATE: It’s lives!!!!!!! Tricia helped me get it to restore. Then the thing just kept wanting to restore. But, looking on Apple.com I found a good article. I popped it into disk mode, ran it through a disk check, and then the restore finished and I could start putting music on it. Wooohooo.

Apple+IKEA = creamy goodness

I saw this posted on TUAW today and just had to share.

Here’s a link to the entire set on flickr. Yes, I am completely jealous.

And, to top off the day, Apple announced a new line of color shuffles. And whop-your-jaw they FINALLY are coming out with orange. Keep your fingers crossed for an orange nano – Dawn has already been made aware I will not be able to control myself – I’ll likely be required to by one. hahaha

8apps

8apps – Social Networking for Productive People

This is a new ‘social network’ for productive people. The following link has a great overview and instructions on how to receive an invite.
http://jonkenpon.com/2007/01/17/8appscom-launched/
I’ve began using this and found that it has very interesting potential. Orchestrate is a task management app and so far it’s looking like a viable solution. I do very much enjoy the Ajax built into this as well. Call me a sucker, but Ajax has a level of finesse unmatched by any else on the web. Also included are Blueprint, a brainstorming app, as well as Handshake, a social networking app (hence, social network for productive people’). I’m spending time to learn each of them to see what role they will hopefully play in my productivity and will keep you posted.

Please let me know if you join as well.

iPhone and Apple TV

Let me just say – I was blown away with today’s Macworld announcements. We all knew the ‘iTV’ was due out, and it does look awesome. At $299 it really looks like a great device. Then there is the iPhone. WOW. A lot of people had speculated about it for a looooong time now.

Recently, we switched over to Verizon, from Cingular since I was sick of dropped calls. I really hope it has been fixed because this thing could actually get me to switch back. The capabilities on the phone are amazing, and the potential for ‘what’s to come’ after this device is endless. Yes, I’m really excited about this. Really.

TUAW.com was ‘liveblogging’ the event today, and admittedly I spent a little time on that site today. hahaha. But this is really cool stuff.

Here’s an interesting example of the impact this announcement had today:
“Apple’s one-button bounce on the day was a stunning $6.1 billion”

Investors dump RIM as Apple launches iPhone

yes folks, oh the times they are a (hopefully) changin’. :) hahaha

Wii

got to go to a friend’s house on Friday – he recently was lucky enough to buy a Wii. Before going over, I did warn my wife that this would “give me bad ideas” but she still agreed that I should go. And yes, my prediction was correct – I NEED A Wii!!!!! The controller was so amazing, especially the responsiveness —- the thing is wireless and I did not notice a delay. The Wii is so much fun.

if anyone is feeling REALLY nice and wants to get me an xmas gift ;)

Magazine update

So we’re live now, yet, I’m just not completely happy with the website. I mean, it gets the job done, but, Joomla just seems a little bloated and clunky for what I want. And it’s a little ugly to me. Seems to work for some sites. Jerid’s site looks pretty good actually, but I just am not having a good time with it for the magazine.

So, that said, I’ve begun my journey to a hacked version of WordPress. Oh trusty WordPress. Why do I love this software so much… hahaha

I’ve found found a few good articles that will be a massive help:
O’Reilly – From Weblog to CMS with WordPress
&
Leon Kilat – How to use WordPress to run a magazine, news website
and so far, I’m likely going to use Bharath Kumar’s 3ColumnK2 template. K2 goodness, extra column to fit things into, widgets; seriously good stuff here.

So I’ve begun moving things over, making the changes needed so far. This is all in a test subdomain though, I’ll write again once it’s live. Also, I need to figure out a good way to integrate a nice looking photo gallery, event list, movie gallery (?), etc. I’ll keep you posted; wish me luck.

Magazine update

So I’ve slowly become a little more comfortable with the Joomla! software. It’s a but un-intuative, but when you just sit and hack away at it, things seems to fall into place. Guess that’s not too far off from most software packages though. (expect the mac,, it does most everything as you’d expect it to; maybe I’m a little biased though. haha) I am quiet excited about the magazine website though – it’s going to be such a rewarding thing to do. I don’t ever expect recognition for this – I don’t need any – so not what it’s about. I do however, hope that the website becomes a tool for more people to get familiar with Hsi Lai Temple, and the Dharma. Even if only a few people – that would make it all worth it.

If I hadn’t posted it before, our URL will be http://www.blmla.orgBuddha’s Light Magazine of Los Angeles.
