Happy Mothers Day

Happy Mother’s Day to my beautiful wife.

Our Little Man is so lucky to have such an amazing mommy.

Happy Mother’s Day to my Mom.

I am so lucky to have you as a momma.

Happy Mother’s Day to all the world’s mothers.

Every one of us owe you so much.

Working out

I’ve begun working out regularly. Funny, when I started, I intended to “just go two or three days a week at first”. Yep, that lasted about a week. Now I go almost every morning before work. Jerid said it, and was completely right – if you’re going to do it, getting in a daily habit is the easiest way.

I didn’t know if I’d like it much, but I committed to trying it out. I love it. I’ll be honest, some days are definitely better than others, but I always feel better when I exercise. I get there between 6 and 6:30 AM each morning before work; depending on the morning meetings I have. A typical workout will consist of; 15 minutes of cardio on the cycle, 5+ minutes of cardio on a treadmill at it’s top incline, then the fun stuff – weights! I REALLY never thought I’d enjoy weights. Once you start to notice the small changes in your physique, that happen relatively quickly, you get quite interested to continue those changes. Seeing progress is really motivating. I have more energy throughout the day, I eat better, and I sleep much better at night. I’ve even lost 7 or 8 pounds.

It seems a lot of us are getting fit and I think that really helps. Tony is getting more fit (he’s also training for his El Cap trip – yes, he’s insane but more on that later.. haha), Tricia is really into rock climbing now, Jerid and Steve are going to the gym (they were the ones who got me to start), and David is an entirely new person! Having the motivation of friends is helpful too.

Awesome day

Today was one of the best days I’ve had in so long. Little Man and I went to temple in the morning. He had a great time walking around (running) and jumping up the stairs.

After that we went to the Orange Circle and; went to Army Navy to look at the camping gear, hung out at the fountain, went to Hot Skates where one of the guys working there gave him a cool sticker (World Industries, and it looks like a smiley face hellraiser, hahaaha), ate at Watson’s (old diner, great place), then we went and got a cupcake at a new place, Mustard’s I believe.

Then, we came home, watch some Thomas video, played Pac-Man, and had a bath.

what a great way to end one week, and begin the next…

The meetings are complete

Finally, the week of meetings has come to an end. It was a great week at work. We got to meet as a team (some of us are not local to my office) and discuss the future priorities for the coming year. Many great improvements planned.

something about sitting in a conference room from 8ish AM to 5ish PM day after day is exhausting…

This weekend should be extremely busy as well. One of my friends (co-worker as well) is coming in from Canada and we’re planning to meet up tomorrow. Looking forward to that – don’t get to hang out with him too much and he’s a great guy. It’s really funny how similar we actually are. Also going to a confirmation (I think that’s what it’s called,, apologies, I’m not catholic, and I just don’t remember) tomorrow for my niece. Then, on Sunday I have a meeting at temple. Once that is done, I hope to take Little Man to meet up with Matt.

….what an exhausting week though…. wwhhewww..

LA Time Festival follow up

Had a great day at the Los Angeles Times Festival of Books today. There was an amazing turn out.

(here’s a shot of our booth – #617)

To help at this each year is something I look forward to. The privilege of discussing Buddhism with people who are interested, and often just beginning as I was years ago is wonderful. Being able to relate to them, to offer what I can to assist in whatever questions they have about the temple, about the books, and of course, about Buddhism makes for such an amazing day.

(Venerable Miao Hsi and I)

Tomorrow I am taking Little Man to the festival so we can enjoy looking at books for him. Even though he has shelves full of books, I hope to bring more home for him – a child can never have too many books.

I’m back!!!!!

Not positive what happened but it sucked!!!!! I believe either

A) someone modified a file on the server

- though I could find no evidence of this.

–or–

B) There is an issue with the ‘WP Contact Form’ plugin I was using

- disabled it and things mostly began to work.

Either way I’m going to continue to look into it….. and upgrade EVERYTHING. hahaha

well, I’m tired, I’ve rambled for a bit. Time to fold the laundry and go to bed.

Birthday

Well, I had a great birthday this year. I’ll have to post more about it soon, but wanted to put up a quick picture. Dawn, Little Man, my Mom, and I went and had a great day hanging out today. One of our stops today was, of course, the Apple Store. This picture cracks us up:

really fun day.

life is good

So I took off Friday and Monday to give myself a 4 day birthday weekend. I don’t do that often, I tend to work a lot. But hey, it’s not every day you have a birthday. Little Man and I had a wonderful day yesterday, and Dawn had a day off. We woke up, had entirely too much cereal (I’ve been dieting lately, going to the gym, the works), then got ready to attempt to take him to the movies. When I say attempt, I mean that Little Man sometimes likes being in the theater, sometimes he doesn’t. This was a time he didn’t. At first I wasn’t happy, but, then we went back to the car sat in the back seat, and hung out to eat our popcorn and drink our lemonade. Which is really all I wanted to do anyway. Then, we went and drove by home and Dawn brought a picnic lunch down for the two of us. He and I went and had our picnic at the train station and watched the trains go by. I was great. Once we finished eating we went to the petting zoo at Zoomar’s, since we we already at Capistrano. Went home, he had a nap, I worked a little (ya, I know, day off, but there was time and I needed to get something done).

Today was a similar day. We went and saw his cousins participate in a karate tournament. Then came home and hung out some more and cleaned the apartment. Tonight he really surprised me with two things. First, Spirited Away came on and he was very interested. (so happy if he is interested in Anime, another excuse for me to watch it. hehe) Then second, out of the blue he started acting like he was doing karate. (I really want him to begin a discipline in karate, I believe if channeled properly it will help him in every aspect of life.) Also, Uncle is over tonight and we always enjoy when Uncle visits.

Tomorrow Dawn has arranged a dinner for my friends to get together, which I’m quite looking forward to. It is actually likely the last dinner we have with a close friend of mine (since 10th grade) so that is a little bittersweet. (more on that later, he’s moving to Portland, which I’m extremely excited for him about) Then, my Mom is coming into town and staying with us until Tuesday. Yay!

So, we’re all caught up to the weekend so far, and I still have two more days off.

life is good.
