FSF: 5 reasons to avoid iPhone 3G (uh, ok!?)

http://www.fsf.org/blogs/community/5-reasons-to-avoid-iphone-3g

now honestly guys – a lot of what you do is amazing, but this is such a lame list

The 5 real reasons to avoid iPhone 3G:

  • iPhone completely blocks free software. Developers must pay a tax to Apple, who becomes the sole authority over what can and can’t be on everyone’s phones.

(making a profit is bad for business?)

  • iPhone endorses and supports Digital Restrictions Management (DRM) technology.

(uh, ok. Or, it wants things to work properly. I would to if I had created something this nice)

  • iPhone exposes your whereabouts and provides ways for others to track you without your knowledge.

(hello, it’s Big Brother. They’re looking for you. Run!)

  • iPhone won’t play patent- and DRM-free formats like Ogg Vorbis and Theora.

(newsflash – Ogg Vorbis is bloat. newsflash 2 – MP3 files are the standard now – stop complaining)

  • iPhone is not the only option. There are better alternatives on the horizon that respect your freedom, don’t spy on you, play free media formats, and let you use free software — like the FreeRunner.

(seriously? It’s like comparing an Audi to a Yugo.)

Primary 08 – Yes We Can!

Sitting here, thinking about the election. It’s been a strange one. It’s typically cliche to say we’re in historic times, but this time; that statement has meaning.

I’ve never cared enough to vote in the primaries. My usual mode is voting against who I didn’t want – the lesser of two evils. This year is so different. So so so different.

To me, I see hope. I see the potential for change. I see the possibility of this country I live in coming out of it’s sad times. There is a lot to change. There is a lot to fix. And there is one man to take us there.

Barack Obama.

Underworld – live at the bowl

Ethan and I went and saw Underworld at the Hollywood Bowl this weekend. We’ve been Underworld fans for quite some time now so it was great to go see them. The show was fantastic! The show just kept getting better and better and better as they went on. Another great thing was seeing how much fun they were having onstage. Karl was jumping for joy like a school boy and yelling fantastic – seeing him truly enjoy himself just adds to the performance.

Here is a link to the full set of pics. I’ll hopefully have the video I took up on YouTube soon. Watch this space.

Buddhas Birthday Celebration

Tomorrow, the little man and I will be going to celebrate the Buddha’s Birthday.

From Venerable: “Saturday, May 19 (1:00 – 4:00 pm) at Cal Poly Pomoma in the Gymnasium. There will be a light-offering cerermony and of course, bathing the Buddha ceremony. Every participant will receive a beautiful lotus flower light.”

I am quite happy this is tomorrow. I feel that I need a small reset, and this is a great place for that. I even think little man is going to behave. I would take pictures, but, Dawn will have the camera for her outing. (more on that later). I’ll see how some camera phone pictures turn out and hopefully post those.
