R2D2 USPS

I was so happy when I found out about the US Postal Service’s plans for R2D2 mailboxes!!! If you hadn’t heard – check this out:

Well, one of my coworkers sent me an email today that they’re officially here, and installed. We’re quite lucky in SoCal – we get two of them. (there were a very limited number made). And, to top it off, someone had posted addresses for them! Yes, we went tonight to see one – it was great!

…yes, I’m a big nerd. so what… hahhaa

Wedding and Violence

Did I catch your attention? lol

Went to a friend’s wedding yesterday. Steve has been a friend for quite a few years now. Actually, used to be my boss as well. He’s the one who hired me into the company I’m at. Very good person. It was really great to see him so happy, he’s finally found the right woman to spend his life with. The ceremony was at his church down in Laguna. Being Buddhist, I guess I’ve become unfamiliar with how often god in mentioned in a Christian church. hahaha. But it was wonderful, he was just beaming with happiness. The reception was very nicely done as well. They had it in one of the large halls at the Marriot in Dana Point; very classy.

Then, Dawn and I went to see 300. It was cool, but, honestly with all the hype I expected so much more. The visuals were good, but no where near what I expected. The story seemed almost non-existent, and I hate to say it, but the scenes were just the same thing over and over. I guess that last part makes sense considering it’s subject. I’d recommend you see it, but, it’s just not as good as I thought it would be. Oh well, Curse of The Golden Flower comes out this Tuesday on DVD – soooo can’t wait…

U B U W E B

In Dwell Magazine’s unending supply of great things, they included a small article on Ubu Web. A massive collection of, well, things. I feel it’s best you just go see for yourself rather than explain what is there.

One thing I did happen upon is ‘Ten Commandments for Gilbert & George 1995‘:

Ten Commandments for Gilbert and George

Thou shalt fight conformism
Thou shalt be the messenger of freedoms
Thou shalt make use of sex
Thou shalt reinvent life
Thou shalt create artificial art
Thou shalt have a sense of purpose
Thou shalt not know exactly what thou dost, but thou shalt do it
Thou shalt give thy love
Thou shalt grab the soul
Thou shalt give something back

Watch it. This is brilliant. I especially enjoy ‘Thou shalt give something back‘ because yes, you should.

Threadless

Took a picture of Little Man at the Star Wars exhibit we went to this weekend (I’ll try to post more on that later) and submitted it to Threadless. We were both wearing our ‘Dark Side of the Garden’ shirts and he tried on the Darth Vader mask. Had to get a picture.

Here’s the link on Threadless.com
…and yes, we match sometimes. Hey – I have to get away with that as much as I can now. I’m sure the day he tells me I’m a nerd and he doesn’t think it’s cool to match it coming soon enough.

ipod (RIP)

yep. After my last update I was quite happy that the iPod was working again. Then it happened. It decided to ask for a reset…. again….

so, I’ve sadly come to the conclusion that my wonderful friend is deceased. RIP my friend…

On a happier note, my bday is coming, so <fingers crossed> hahahahhahaahhahhaa

What does ‘rich’ mean

A friend of mine sent this a while back and I thought it was quite amazing. I wanted to share:

———

It was a busy morning, approximately 8:30 a.m., when an elderly gentleman in his 80′s, arrived to have stitches removed from his thumb. He stated that he was in a hurry as he had an appointment at 9:00 am.

I took his vital signs and had him take a seat, knowing it would be over an hour before someone would be able to see him. I saw him looking at his watch and decided, since I was not busy with another patient, I would evaluate his wound. On exam, it was well healed, so I talked to one of the doctors, got the needed supplies to remove his sutures and redress his wound.

While taking care of his wound, we began to engage in conversation. I asked him if he had another doctor’s appointment this morning, as he was in such a hurry. The gentleman told me no, that he needed to go to the nursing home to eat breakfast with his wife. I then inquired as to her health. He told me that she had been there for a while and that she was a victim of Alzheimer’s disease. As we talked, I asked if she would be upset if he was a bit late. He replied that she no longer knew who he was, that she had not recognized him in five years now. I was surprised, and asked him, “And you still go every morning, even though she doesn’t know who you are?” He smiled as he patted my hand and said, “She doesn’t know me, but I still know who she is.”

I had to hold back tears as he left, I had goose bumps on my arm, and thought, “That is the kind of love I want in my life.” True love is neither physical, nor romantic. True love is an acceptance of all that is, has been, will be, and will not be. The happiest people don’t necessarily have the best of everything; they just make the best of everything they have.

I’ve also found myself very fortunate to be able to relate to this story………

my iPod is dead

Yep. It looks like my wonderful little iPod has reached it’s end.

What a sad, sad day. It started acting up yesterday on the way home from work. I changed selections and it froze. So, I let the battery die (not that I had a choice) and let it rest for a while. Plugged it in to see what would happen and still had issues. Then, this morning, I was able to do a reset on it. Looked like it would work, but, did not. t just won’t play.

So, tonight I tried to do a restore and that is what I got. :(

I was so hoping an orange nano would come out before it died. I really want orange, but the shuffle just won’t fit my needs. I’ll likely get the (PRODUCT) RED nano, but we’ll have to see.

**UPDATE: It’s lives!!!!!!! Tricia helped me get it to restore. Then the thing just kept wanting to restore. But, looking on Apple.com I found a good article. I popped it into disk mode, ran it through a disk check, and then the restore finished and I could start putting music on it. Wooohooo.
